Encampment is the premier leadership event for cadets in the Civil Air Patrol. You may arrive with no knowledge of how the cadet program works, or you may attend for the first time with years of experience behind you. No matter where you are when you arrive, you will leave with the basic tools and foundational knowledge to excel in and out of the Civil Air Patrol. 

The 2026 Maine and New Hampshire Wings Joint Encampment is being held at Ft. Devens, an Army Reserve base in North Central Massachusetts. During this time, you will have the opportunity to live in a military structured environment for one week. Throughout that week, you will learn to practice basic military drill and ceremonies and be challenged to improve physically. You will learn about aerospace and leadership in the classroom and through practical exercises and challenges and may even have the opportunity to participate in an orientation flight. You will also experience fun and educational outdoor opportunities, including activities on the on-base obstacle course, and learning about first aid.

Encampment serves as a steppingstone to leadership positions, opens up exciting opportunities in the Civil Air Patrol, gives you experience working within a team, and challenges you to go outside your comfort zone and apply your full potential to better those around you. It’s an excellent opportunity if you’re looking to develop yourself, have a good time, and bond with other cadets!

The Advanced Training Squadron (ATS) is an excellent opportunity for Airmen and NCOs who have completed basic encampment and want to expand their leadership skills and learn more about the Civil Air Patrol Program. The goal of ATS is to produce confident and capable leaders and mentors who can succeed in all aspects of the cadet program. The environment that ATS runs on is the learning environment where cadets are encouraged to take chances, make mistakes, and learn from the leaders around them. Throughout the week, these cadets build a bond stronger than that of basic encampment, and they emerge not only as a team but also as friends who can rely on each other. During the week, ATS cadets will have the opportunity to lead their fellow cadets as Flight Sergeants, Flight Commanders, and First Sergeants. This opportunity allows them to practice following a schedule, marching other ATS students to different events, and get feedback from the ATS Training Officers and NCOs. These cadets will be offered unique opportunities to expand their Emergency Services and Aerospace knowledge, both through the classroom and hands-on application. The Advanced Training Squadron students will also be able to shadow key members of the encampment staff. This means that they will be able to ask questions of the flight and support staff and see different aspects of their roles. All of these activities lead to an exciting and engaging week!
