Chaplain’s Message – April 1, 2020

I am heartened in this challenging time by the many, many stories of individuals and groups volunteering to help out in the current situation. Our CAP wing is part of this process, as we all should be aware.

I have often heard it stated that this crisis is the largest since 9/11 in testing our national resolve. That makes me think of a current musical named “Come From Away,” which depicts how the citizens of Gander, Newfoundland, selflessly helped, for several days, over 7000 individuals who were unexpectedly “stuck” there when all flights into the US were halted and the air space was closed for several days. It is a beautiful story of human caring and sacrifice.

However, the relevant reason for mentioning the play is that, at one critical point, one of the characters remembers a hymn from his youth that inspires him. It is a beautiful hymn that speaks to the situation we find ourselves in now…..

I share a few verses of this hymn with you…..

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there’s sadness, ever joy….

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there is hatred, let me bring Your love
Where there is injury, Your pardon Lord
And where there’s doubt, true faith in You

Blessings at this time of challenge….
